The Dirt on... Hatch Peppers

If we had just one chili to grow, this would be it. A special garden friend, Mandy Marley, had moved to our area from New Mexico and introduced us to the Hatch pepper - her personal favorite. Since I'm always up for growing something new, we couldn't wait to try it. I was warned that a TRUE Hatch pepper can only be grown in the terroir of the Hatch Valley. (Think authentic champagne can only originate from grapes grown in Champagne, France.) It's now our travel bucket list. Hatch peppers are absolutely divine roasted and incredibly versatile - salsa and tacos to burgers and breakfast skillets. We roasted, skin and vacuum seal the precious fruits with all the oily juices to savor throughout the year. They are soooo yummy they have replaced Pablanos are our go to and I'll be eliminating Anaheims completely from our lineup next year. We carry 2 varieties -
Big Jim – Large peppers with mild to medium heat, perfect for roasting and stuffing.
Double Cross – Classic Hatch flavor with a little extra kick.Stop by and pick up your Hatch pepper plants while supplies last!

This Sunday at the Prairie FarmStand we’re trying something new… tiny spoon desserts & snack cups that are perfect to enjoy right away (we’ll have mini spoons available!) or take home for later.

NEW this weekend:

🍋 Oma’s Lemon Bites
Bright, creamy lemon goodness topped with buttery crumble and powdered sugar.

🥕 Farmhouse Carrot Cake Cups
Layers of moist carrot cake, cream cheese frosting & crunchy topping in our little 4 oz dessert cups.

🥜 Prairie Power Bites
Our hearty little oat, peanut butter, maple & chocolate bites are back — perfect for the road, the lake, or “just one more.” 😉

And of course… our thick, chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies will be here too — because some things are staples for a reason. 🍪

🍯 We are currently looking for a new honey supplier, but hope to have local honey back soon!

🍁 And more maple syrup is on the way.

🌱 Good Root Growers had LOTS of beautiful plants at the greenhouse this weekend. If you missed them, there's a little taste of everything at the FarmStand. Flowers, trellis vines, onions, herbs, peppers & some AMAZING container-friendly tomato varieties perfect for pots on your deck or patio.
