There’s a particular rhythm to this side of the island.

If you’re staying at Hale Mele, a trip into Kona’s coffee country makes for an easy day away from the coast.

The best part of a beach day is coming home to this.

Sandy feet through the door. Wet towels finding their spots to dry. Boogie boards leaning against the wall. Shoes left wherever everyone happened to kick them off.

Then come the showers, the snacks, the tired kids, and that quiet stretch when everyone starts settling back in.

Some of our favorite vacation moments happen right here — when the beach day isn’t really over, it just moves home.

At Hale Mele, our outdoor spaces become part of the day too. A place to rinse off, dry out, cool down, and let everyone spread out after a few hours in the sun and water.

When you’re planning a stay, the right home really comes down to how your group likes to spend time together.

Hale Mele is a single-level 5-bedroom home for up to 10 guests, with an easy one-floor flow that works well when you want everyone close by without having to navigate multiple levels.

Hale Mele 2 is a larger 5-bedroom, two-story home with more space and additional gathering areas and amenities, making it a natural fit for bigger groups who want a little more room to spread out.

Neither is “better.” They’re simply designed a little differently.

Hospitality isn't about being perfect. It's about what happens when things aren't.

Travel doesn't always go exactly as planned. A question comes up, something needs attention, or an unexpected hiccup changes the day.

For us, good hosting means being there when that happens.

It means communicating clearly, responding promptly, listening to concerns, and taking the time to work toward a solution. Not every situation can be anticipated, but guests should always feel heard and cared for.

We think that’s an important part of making a home feel welcoming. The little things matter, but so does how you show up when something doesn't go quite right.

Guests who stay a week describe it differently. Here’s what they said.

There’s something about having a little more time at Hale Mele. The first few days are for settling in, figuring out where everything is, and getting into the slower rhythm of island life.

Then the house starts to feel like part of the vacation. Breakfast in the kitchen, afternoons by the pool, days out exploring, and enough time to come home without feeling like you have to rush back out.

One guest, Vickie, put it simply:

“The house was better than we dreamed. Anything we needed was there. It was a palace for my family.”

The food here tastes like the island. Here’s where to find it.

One of our favorite ways to experience the Big Island is through the food, and it starts with knowing where it comes from.

Start in Waimea with local farms, farmers markets, and the people growing and making food here. Then sit down somewhere that puts those island ingredients at the center of the meal, like a farm-to-table spot that works closely with local growers and producers.

And when you’re staying in Mauna Lani, you don’t have to go far for a good local-food experience. There are places nearby that make it easy to keep the day close to home while still enjoying ingredients from around the island.
