OUR VISION is to be the premier organization composed of men of integrity and character, who are honest, true to their word, have a strong belief in God, are devoted to family, charitable in their community, and courteous and helpful to each other. Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest fraternal organization. It is open to men of 18 years old or older of any color, any religion, nationality or social standing, the only requirement is a belief in a Supreme Being. Its body of knowledge and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while being devoted to his family, faith, country, and Fraternity.

Mount Vernon Royal Arch Chapter No. 14 was honored to welcome Most Worshipful Matthew Szramoski during its Table Chapter on October 3. Also present were the Grand Chapter Dais Officers: M.E. Kyle Strickland, Grand High Priest; R.E. Joel Bundy, Grand King; and R.E. Tom Varner, Grand Scribe. Their presence highlighted the spirit of York Rite unity, fellowship, and support that continues to strengthen our Capitular Masonry throughout Virginia.

1810 Proceedings: A dispensation having been issued by the Grand Master, dated June 25, 1810, for the opening of a Lodge in the county of Lancaster, by the name of the Lancaster Union Lodge, appointing John Seward, Master; Thomas Brown, Senior Warden; and Jos. B. Downman, Junior Warden; and the said dispensation being returned, on motion,

Resolved, That a charter do issue, for the permanent establishment of said Lodge in Lancaster county, by the name of the Lancaster Union Lodge, No. 88, appointing the same persons officers thereof, who are named in the said dispensation.

1824 Proceedings: Listed as dormant.

1825 Proceedings: Resolved, For reasons appearing to the Grand Lodge, that the jewels and floor cloth of Lancaster Union Lodge, No. 88, which are now in the possession of the Grand Lodge, be and the same are hereby loaned to Farnham Humanity Lodge, No. 140, but to be subject the future call of the Grand Lodge.

1846 Proceedings: A Petition was received from sundry brethren residing at and near Lancaster Courthouse, praying for a Dispensation to open a new Lodge at that place, and naming Wor. William Brent, as Master, E. G. Sherman, Senior Warden, and John B. Barr, Junior Warden.

Whereupon, Resolved, That a Dispensation be issued to authorise the opening a Lodge at Lancaster Courthouse, by the name of Warren, and appointing the officers named.

1847 Proceedings: Whereas a dispensation was issued to authorize the opening of a Lodge at Lancaster Courthouse, by the name, title and designation of "Warren Lodge, No. 88", and appointing Wor. William Brent, Master, E. G. Sherman, Sr. Warden, and John B. Ball, Jr. Warden; and said dispensation being returned, together with the necessary documents,

The 1797 Washington-Preston Ladle being displayed at the Grand Lodge of Virginia Library & Museum.

After being elected to Congress in 1793, Brother Francis Smith Preston had the opportunity to meet his father's longtime friend, Brother George Washington, who was then serving as the first President of the United States. In remembrance of their enduring friendship, Washington presented the younger Preston with a unique punch ladle crafted from buffalo horn.

The horn came from a buffalo that Colonel Preston and Brother Washington had hunted together many years earlier in the Allegheny Mountains. A Philadelphia silversmith later transformed the horn into an elegant ladle, finishing it with a silver-capped handle.
