If you’re in the Poconos region of Pennsylvania and looking for an easy and accessible hike to 3 waterfalls—head to the Rockport Access section of Lehigh Gorge State Park.
There is a beautiful cascade right at the parking lot!
Then take the D&L Trail to the left for a short walk to reach Buttermilk Falls.
Turn around and backtrack past the parking area and continue on the D&L to reach some ruins and then Luke’s Falls.
If you want a longer walk, just continue on the D&L, or you can turn around and head back to your car.
It’s a total of 1.2 miles.
Short, easy, and quite beautiful. 😍
I was short on time for my recent visit to the Poconos, but I wanted to see some waterfalls, so this was perfect!
As always, please remember to leave no trace while exploring these beautiful places.

AD | Looking for outdoor adventures this summer?
Don’t skip out on Harford County, Maryland.
🌲🥾🛶 Hello Harford

Here are 5 spots worth adding to your itinerary:

📍 Rocks State Park
Home to two of Harford County’s most iconic destinations. Visit Kilgore Falls, Maryland’s second-highest free-falling waterfall, via an easy 0.8-mile out-and-back hike. During summer weekends and holidays, reservations are required for the parking area. For sweeping views, tackle the moderate 3.2-mile King and Queen Seat Loop through rocky forests and scenic overlooks.

📍 Gunpowder Falls State Park
Step back in time at Jerusalem Mill Village, a beautifully preserved 18th-century milling village. Pick up a brochure at the Visitor Center and explore historic buildings before heading out on the easy 2.1-mile Little Gunpowder & Jerusalem Mill Trail Loop along the creek.

📍 Conowingo Dam
A favorite destination for birdwatchers and photographers. Fisherman’s Park offers excellent views of the Susquehanna River and is one of the best places in the region to spot bald eagles, especially during the colder months.

📍 Susquehanna State Park
Explore forests, river views, and local history on the 3.2-mile Ridge Trail to Land of Promise Trail Loop. Start near the historic Rock Run Grist Mill, one of the oldest surviving grist mills in Maryland.

📍 Mariner Point Park
Get out on the water with a beginner-friendly paddling tour through Ultimate Watersports, then explore the park’s 1.1-mile walking trail, fishing piers, and scenic waterfront views.

🌎As you explore, remember to follow Leave No Trace principles: stay on designated trails, pack out everything you bring in, respect wildlife, and help keep these places beautiful for future visitors.

Looking for some cool spots to explore in Pennsylvania?

I don’t know how anyone can say there’s nothing to do in PA when I find these cool spots all over the state.

I could make so many of these lists, but here are 10 cool spots just to get you started. 😉

1. Seven Tubs in the Pinchot State Forest in Luzerne County—Take a short hike to see the “tubs”, which are natural pools and cascades formed by ancient glacial meltwater eroding sandstone bedrock. Don’t skip the Audubon Loop. This does get busy, and you will have to leave if the parking area is full.

2. Take a ride of Route 6 in Bradford County to check out one of my favorite spots in PA, Wyalusing Rocks. It’s a roadside overlook—no hiking required.

3. Spend a day in Mt Gretna in Lebanon County and be sure to take the short hike to Dinosaur Rock. Also, be sure to leave your spray paint at home. It’s not cool to graffiti rock formations.

4. Check out the carp at the Linesville Spillway in Pymatuning State Park in Crawford County. This is one of those odd yet amazing attractions that the whole family will enjoy. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid.

5. Take a hike on the Rim Trail at Colton Point State Park in Tioga County to check out those Pine Creek Gorge views.

6. Head to Lawrence County and take a short hike to Hells Hollow Falls in McConnells Mill State Park. Don’t let the name scare you off. It’s quite peaceful and lovely.

7. Completed in 1854, the Altoona Horseshoe Curve helped trains conquer the Allegheny Mountains. Catch the view from the overlook. Admission fee required to access viewing area which includes entrance to a museum.

8. Explore an old hunting camp in the Quehanna Wild Area in Clearfield County. There is so much cool stuff to check out in this area, but be prepared for limited cell service.

9. Take a walk on the Old PA Turnpike Trail to check out Rays Hill Tunnel and the Sideling Hill Tunnel. The entire trail is 8.5 miles but you can reach Rays Hill Tunnel with a 1.5 mi walk from a parking area in Breezewood. Bring a flashlight.

10. You can’t beat the views from Erie Bluffs State Park in the summer. Take the Fisherman’s Path for water access.

Have you been to Great Falls Park in Virginia?

There are 3 overlooks with views of the rushing waters of the Potomac River. This view is from a rocky view right by the parking lot. Travel a bit farther and you’ll find an accessible view.

Parking at Great Falls is $20/ vehicle or you can hike in from Riverbend Park (that’s what we did) It’s a 3.5 mi out and back.

Have you hiked to the only waterfall in Centre County, PA?

Here’s how to reach this beautiful spot in : Yost Run Falls is located on the 53-mile Chuck Keiper Trail, a loop trail located in Centre and Clinton Counties in the Sproul State Forest. But don’t worry, you don’t have to hike the entire 53 miles to see two beautiful waterfalls.

Park in the lot off Ridge Rd (144) and take the Bloom Draft trail to the Chuck Keiper Trail. It’s about 1.5 mi to reach Yost Run Falls. Continue another 100 yards or so down the trail and look to your left to see Kyler Fork Falls. You are now in Clinton County. We had to get our feet wet and cross Yost Run to get the best view of Kyler Fork Falls. But it was totally worth it! We turned around and retraced our steps at this point, but you can continue on to make a longer loop. Note: The mountain laurel is at peak bloom in mid to late June. ♻️Always remember to Leave No Trace while exploring the outdoors. centrecounty clintoncounty
