The Saltbox porch railing, before and after pics. We’ve still got the stairs down to the water to finish, but we’re thrilled with the progress. No rot, just thirsty boards.
We are so grateful that we get to steward this place. ❤️❤️❤️

Today the Saltbox is getting a mini facelift. We are repainting the front deck and stairs. We’re already about a quarter of the way done. Stay tuned for before and after pics. ❤️

At The Saltbox on Huffman Creek we try to find ways to give old classics a new life. Here is the before and after of a beautiful old dresser that we found at a Restore in Florida. After waiting a year in storage to be refinished, this beauty is finally home brightening up our master suite and we love her.

If you’re looking for a place to slow down, reconnect, and escape the summer heat for a little while, I’d love to invite you to The Salt Box on Huffman Creek.

This little cottage tucked away in the Smoky Mountains has become such a special place to our family, and I love sharing it with others who appreciate peace, nature, and simple mountain living. There’s nothing quite like sitting by the creek with your morning coffee, listening to the sounds of the water, and breathing in the cool mountain air.

During your stay, you can spend your days exploring some of the most beautiful places in the mountains, including:
• Tail of the Dragon
• Cherohala Skyway
• Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest
• Great Smoky Mountains National Park
• Lake Santeetlah
• Fontana Lake

Whether you’re looking for adventure, family time, or just a quiet place to rest and recharge, I hope The Salt Box feels as welcoming to you as it does to us.

Message me for summer rates and availability — I’d love to help you plan your mountain getaway.

In Cherokee, North Carolina you can float past elk as you tube the crystal clear Oconaluftee River through the Smokies with Smoky Mountain Tube & Raft, one of the most scenic warm-weather adventures in the Smokies. Once summer weather rolls in, this easygoing river trip lets you settle into a tube and drift through clear mountain water with wooded banks, rocky shallows, and Smoky Mountain views all around. The float usually takes about two to three hours, with calm sections mixed with small rapids, large boulders, rope swings, and plenty of places where the water stays shallow enough to feel relaxed and family-friendly. Along the way, you may see trout moving below you, wildflowers along the riverbank, herons near the water, and even elk in the Oconaluftee River valley, which is home to one of the main elk herds in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Smoky Mountain Tube & Raft has been running tubing trips in Cherokee since 1999, and they provide the tube, shuttle ride back, and optional life jackets, with small groups often able to walk up without a reservation. Kids five and under can even join in, making this a laid-back way for families to enjoy the river, the mountain scenery, and a true Cherokee summer day.
