Up, up and away ...

Thirty hot-air balloons will ascend from the Letchworth State Park gorge Friday to Monday for the 14th annual Red, White & Blue Balloon Rally. You can get a bird's-eye view of Letchworth, which is nicknamed the "Grand Canyon of the East." If you'd rather check out the balloons from the river gorge, a rafting picnic supper is offered. RPO presents Dvorak favourite

Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra performs Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" at 7:30 p.m. today and 8 p.m. Saturday at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Yoav Talmi is guest conductor, and Juliana Athayde (pictured) is featured violinist. "These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil," Dvorak said of the native folk tunes he heard during his visit to America. ZooBrew kicks off Friday

The Seneca Park Zoo holds its annual ZooBrew fundraiser for those 21 and older from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today. Live music, food and drink will be available& with a chance to stroll around, of course, and visit the animals. Photos celebrate life 'In the Garden'

"In the Garden," a new photography exhibition at George Eastman House, opens Saturday. The images are of locations spanning the globe, from the grand gardens of Versailles to backyard vegetable plots. More than 75 photographers will be represented, including Anna Atkins, Hippolyte Bayard, Eugene Atget, Edward Steichen, Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Imogen Cunningham, Edward Weston, Lee Friedlander, Stephen Shore, Emmet Gowin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Barbara Norfleet, Mark Klett, Ablardo Morell, Andrew Buurman, Tanya Marcuse, Sharon Core (whose work is pictured), Ori Gersht, Rachel Sussman and Brad Temkin. Tyzik's acclaimed homage to MAG

Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra presents "Tyzik's Images: Musical Impressions of an Art Museum" featuring the Rochester City Ballet at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Lilac Festival blooms

The weather looks pretty good for the opening weekend of the Lilac Festival at Highland Park. Friday is going to be mid-80s and sunny, and a chance of rain Saturday morning, but temps in the high 80s! More than 130 musical performanceswill be held on two stages, with many food vendors nearby. The annual free event also features a parade, a juried arts and crafts show with 160 artists and craftspeople, wine-and-chocolate tastings, a craft beer festival, and the Highland Hospital Lilac Run 10K and 5K.
