Every detail in here came from Emily. The Ellwood is named after Craig Ellwood, a designer known for minimal steel and glass, so she leaned all the way into clean, simple Mid-Century design.

Someone asked us recently what is our favorite thing to do out in Hocking Hills during Fall. If you've been around, it will come as no surprise that it's absolutely the hiking.

For a few weeks every year, the whole hillside goes gold and red, and the air finally gets that bite to it. You can feel the season change on the walk from the car to the trailhead.

We’ve hiked Rock House and Cantwell Cliffs more times than we can count. Rock House, with its cave tucked into the cliff, and Cantwell, the quieter one most people skip. They’ve never once gotten old, and fall is when they’re at their best.

So if you’re coming out this time of year, that’s the reason. Get here before it’s gone. 🍂

We built the Overlook like a beach house, except instead of the ocean you get rolling Hocking Hills for miles. Kitchen and living room are upstairs so you can flip pancakes and stare at the hills at the same time. Multitasking at its finest.

Then there’s the part where the house is basically tucked into the rocks. A guest said it feels “half in the rocks” and we’ve been saying it ever since.

Hot tub on the deck, fire pit out back, a waterfall just a short walk from the front door, and a bunk room the kids will fight over 😂

Roca was the fourth hop we built and the first on our new 75 acre property. We tucked it into a canyon between huge rock cliffs, which is how it got its name. Roca means “rock” in Spanish and nothing else felt right.

Inside it’s eclectic and a little whimsical, perfect for a book or a board game. Out back, the suspended deck has a hot tub, grill, and outdoor shower overlooking the canyon, with a cave and waterfall just around the bend.

For years, Emily's grandpa only knew the hops through the photos we'd send him. A few weeks ago, that finally changed. We brought him out to stay at the Hygge since it's fully accessible, and took him on an easy walk to Ash Cave so he could be part of it without it being too much.

Back at the Hygge, the kids pulled him into a game of Jenga at the kitchen table. Some of the best moments these hops have given us have nothing to do with the build and everything to do with who gets to walk through the door.
