4 days ago I learned what the phrase “stubborn as a mule” means first hand! Woodrow and I went through a battle royale!! Not mean, he didn’t buck, he didn’t kick…. He did rear up a few times. He was not about to go forward…. Barn sour, buddy sour, stubborn stubborn stubborn etc. He would go just fine with other horses, but not alone…. Fast forward 5 days…. Each day a little better but I came in every day in a full sweat. I rode him mornings and evenings… before and after guests…. We were soaking saddle pads with Woodrow sweat. I Rode tonight…. No issues. We Rode every trail we have… alone… and where I pointed him, he went. He was AWESOME! A good friend of mine back in Oakley gave me the best advice years and years ago…. “If you want a good horse/mule…… ride it”…. Patience and consistency. Woodrow will eventually fill in great for Henry (big shoes to fill). But he is First to meet me at the gate everyday and He’s already got my heart.

Johnny Cash has been suffering from Equine Asthma and allergies. He has been struggling going up our mountain. I give him albuterol treatments and dexamethazone to help him. But it’s not fair to him to struggle like he does on our mountain trails. He went to Mar’s place today. She has pretty Flat land, gives great care and he’s back with his buddy Max. Hopefully he will have an easier time breathing there. He’s a good one.

Up from Gatlinburg for Doug’s birthday. They booked an afternoon horse ride followed by Alisa’s home cooked pot roast dinner. Great way to spend a birthday! Glad they booked their special occasion with us.

Henry left a bigger hole here at EFA than we anticipated. We found a mule in Cleveland Tn. Yesterday that was almost the same circumstances as when we got Henry. He’s only 4 years old so still a little green. Absolutely great disposition. He met me at the gate this morning. I will put our first ride on him this evening and see how he does. Photos or video to follow soon. I think he will fit in awesome! Everyone…. meet our newest member “Woodrow”

Over from NC, these two are headed to South Dakota to ride for a week. Visited us today for a few pointers and a pre ride before hitting a thousand acre ranch. Sounds like they will have a great time!

It’s all fun and games until this nonsense blocks the trails. Got this cleared and ran into 3 more downed clusters up on trail 3. I made it but I’m getting too old for much more of this nonsense. I don’t think Ive sweat that much or that my mouth has been that dry since I was losing weight for wrestling back in high school. 😏
