Hands-on learning for techniques of masonry, taught in a historic structure by a master mason. The series consists of 3 one-day sessions plus a final 2.5-day session that incorporates concepts and techniques from the first 3 sessions. Participants can choose to attend just 1, some, or all of the sessions. No prior experience or tools are required.
Session 1 JUNE 24, 2023: Stone repair and re-surfacing. Eroded stone window elements are a common repair need in historic homes. This class covers materials and techniques to restore stone window sills and other elements. Event page here: https://fb.me/e/2W42cPTut
The workshops will be held in the historic Kirkpatrick-Garth House at 819 Hall Street. They will be taught by Jon Sauter of 5-Point Masonry. All sessions start at 8:00am sharp and will end by 5:00pm, with a 1-hour lunch break from 12:00 – 1:00pm.
Cost per 1-day session is $100; cost for the 2.5-day 4th session is $200. You will be provided tools and materials; personal protective equipment (PPE) including an N-95 mask, safety glasses, a hard hat, and gloves; a box lunch; and a certificate of completion at the end of the session. Participants can register for all 4 sessions for $450, provided there is still space left in all sessions. Payment by cash, check, or money order.
Registration for each session is strictly limited to 10 participants. All participants will be asked to sign a release of liability. Registration is now open for all sessions by calling Isobel at the Shakespeare Chateau at 816-232-2667.
Proceeds from this workshop series, after expenses, benefit the Shakespeare Chateau Guild, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to advance the preservation of St. Joseph’s historic architecture through educational opportunities.
