This gorgeous Yamaha Maple Custom shell pack and Musser M51 xylophone found their way into the orchestra pit for the upcoming production of “Singin’ in the Rain” at Providence Academy in Plymouth, Minnesota.

This beautiful Honduran rosewood marimba, an instrument made in 1953 by Musser Marimbas, Inc. (before the Ludwig/Musser partnership) will sing out as a part of the ensemble for a special music service. Leading the ensemble is Paul Wi******er. If you'd like to attend, head to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Minnetonka on Sunday, March 22, at 10a. The church is located at 2030 Wayzata Boulevard East in Wayzata, in the southwest quadrant of the intersection of 394 and Carlson Parkway.

Following the service, you are invited to stay for fellowship or two special events: the Soul Matters Circle and the North Wall Artist Meet & Greet.

(Or you can stay with me and learn how to disassemble a vintage marimba and carry it to a waiting hauling van!)

It is easy to forget in our digital communications world that people still like to know they’re talking with people. So let me introduce myself - my name is Kelli Rae Tubbs and I am the owner of MSP Percussion, LLC. Although only a few of the photographs of the hundreds of instruments in my collection have made their way onto my ”Rentals” webpage, just know two things: that more photos are on their way and that I am always adding new instruments to my collection.

In 2026, I have acquired a beautiful 4.0 octave Honduran rosewood marimba, a pair of 4-row ankle bells, tabla drums, a pair of tingsha, and I am a conversation or two away from a big move!

Rentals concluding this week are a low octave of crotales and a bell plate.

Upcoming spring rentals include a set of five tympani (yes — including a 20”), glockenspiel, chimes, and suspended cymbal. And it looks like an almglocken rental may be coming up soon!

My services aren’t limited to rentals. I also perform regular maintenance and repairs and deliver masterclasses to young percussionists and NON-percussion playing band directors.

So there you have it. There are many pathways of service from MSP Percussion and I hope I can help you on the road you are travelling soon!

This evening, Becker (MN) High School is performing Sousa's march "The Liberty Bell" with the addition of a shiny like-new bell plate, one of two available from MSP Percussion, LLC, although the vintage bell plate is shown in this photo.

In Sousa's score, the percussionist is instructed to perform the part on either a ship's bell or a bell plate. The ship's bell in our collection didn't quite fit the tonality of the piece, so the bell plate was chosen both for pitch and for ease of playing by the student.
