Our Story

Cindy Lou MacMackin, owner and innkeeper, is in her twenty-fifth year at The Inn at Burwell Place. She and her husband, Mark Bukowski, reared their now twenty-five year old daughter at The Inn. Mark is employed outside of The Inn as a Senior VP Wealth Management with Wells Fargo Bank. Both Cindy Lou and her husband are unobtrusive and place heavy emphasis on guest privacy and comfort.

Cindy Lou’s favorite thing to do is travel, with hopes of visiting all continents. She enjoys reading, water pilates, walking, dining out and spending time with friends and family.

Cindy Lou received both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Virginia Tech. She worked through high school and college at several restaurants, eventually working her way into management positions prior to graduation. After relocating to Washington DC, she was hired by a hotel chain that founded the all suite hotel room. She was the Director of Sales for two of their most prominent properties; one near Georgetown, and the other near the Kennedy Center. Her last position in DC prior to purchasing The Inn, was with The Department of Energy. Cindy Lou jumped into volunteering in her community by being the founding President of her local Rotary Club. She created The Inn at Burwell Annual Backyard Croquet Tournament which raised ten of thousands over the years for local non-profit organizations, specifically children based. She has also served on numerous non-profit Boards.
