But let's be honest — this isn't about an award.
In the last 18 months, Western North Carolina has been through Hurricane Helene. Wildfires. An ice storm. Drought. Flooding.
One gut punch after another.
And every single time, this region got back up.
So did we.
We didn't just rebuild — we reimagined. We said goodbye to the old round donut tubes and hello to deluxe mini cats with reclining padded seats and paddles in your hands. These things glide, swish, and swivel around the new face of the Green River like they were born for it.
But here's the truth: we were just following WNC's lead.
This region doesn't quit. It doesn't flinch. It plants its feet, takes a breath, and finds a way forward — sometimes gracefully, sometimes messily, always forward.
This award belongs to every person who stayed, who rebuilt, who kept showing up for this place they love.
