You get a day off. They make memories to last a lifetime.
A trip to Sanibel and Captiva is often about slowing down, enjoying the beach, and spending time together. But more families are looking for ways to make that time count for something more.
Through Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s (SCCF) Sanibel Sea School and Voluntourism program, families have the opportunity to turn part of their vacation into something meaningful. Kids can spend their day exploring coastal ecosystems, learning about marine life, and discovering the natural world just beyond the shoreline. At the same time, parents can enjoy a little flexibility in their day, knowing their children are engaged in something both fun and educational.
Sanibel Sea School day camps and programs are designed to spark curiosity and get kids outside. Whether they’re wading through tidal pools, learning about shells, or exploring how coastal habitats work, each experience helps them see the beach in a whole new way.
For families looking to get involved together, SCCF offers hands-on voluntourism opportunities throughout the season. From habitat restoration and native planting to coastal cleanups, these experiences give visitors a chance to give back to the place they’re enjoying.
Visitors are already embracing these programs. Last year, nearly 7,600 people participated in Sanibel Sea School programs, and about 64% of them were visitors who wanted a deeper connection to the coast.
Whether you’re planning activities for your kids or looking for a meaningful way to spend part of your time on the islands, these programs offer something different from the typical beach day.
