We were told she was a Great Dane mix but we’re not sure about that. Some people guessed pit/boxer or Dane/Pit, but we’re not sure about that either. She fits the physical description and temperament spot on. She is a human dog. She wants to be by your side, in your lap, your best friend. She likes dogs but prefers people. She can be fearful of some dogs and has shown some aggression towards my fe
male Lab. My Lab can be a little temperamental, so I don’t want to blame Luna. I think she would be best in a home as an only dog or with a family that has a compatible dog. She gets along great with my Dalmatian and Bernese Mountain dog. I have not tested her with small dogs or cats. She saw a kitten once and seemed too interested in the kitty for me to test it safely. Luna should probably be in a family with no kids or older kids because she does have a bad habit of food guarding. But in her defense, she didn’t know where her next meal was coming from for a very long time. If she does growl and you scold her, she will immediately stop and drop to the ground. She’s very receptive to commands but still has that food issue. Luna is not a barker, great indoors, potty trained, knows how to sit, stay, shake, and come. She loves to play fetch and knows how to drop it politely. She’s so smart and could learn endless commands. She wants to please her humans. I have had many dogs in the past and I’ve never had one that wants to please her owners as much as Luna she does. If we didn’t have a full house, I would keep her in a heartbeat. She’s the best dog. If you’re looking for a best friend, a new family addition, Luna is your girl!! Luna’s story:
Luna was brought into the San Bernadino City Shelter on May 08, 2017. At the time, they were calling her Olive. She was scared and didn’t know why she was there. Some wonderful volunteers looked at her and knew she had so much to offer. They took her out and spent some time with her. These wonderful volunteers took pictures and videos of her in hopes of getting her a home. Her story was shared more than 1,500 times on different pages, yet nobody came to save her. I was contacted by a rescue (now closed) and they begged me to take her for 2 weeks. They said if I didn’t get her on May 25th, they would kill her that night. I couldn’t let that happen to the sweet, loving, quiet girl. I drove from Palmdale to San Bernadino to pick up a large dog I knew nothing about. When they brought her out to me, she was petrified. She was holding onto the animal control person with her paws, it was the saddest thing. Most dogs would be thrilled to get out and this poor girl had been through so much, she was scared to leave. I promised her right there that I would NEVER let her be scared like that again, and I would never let her be on death row. I walked her right out of the shelter, picked her up, and threw her in my car. Lucky for me, she was ok with it. It was our first road trip together and she was so good. The second we got on the road, I saw a little smile on her face. She knew she was safe. I got her home and let her explore my backyard. That’s when I started to realize that she had be abused in the past. She feared our pool skimmer, was terrified of the hose or any water at all, and felt safer under the table. Despite being abused, scared, and not knowing who we were, she was the sweetest little love bug towards us. I could tell she was thanking us for saving her. This perfect girl is wonderful in the car and was great in a hotel. She doesn’t bark, is potty trained, and just wants to be by your side. So, we’ve had Luna since May 25th and this WONDERFUL girl has come a LONG way. She used to be scared of anything that could be used to hit her…. brooms, mops, pool skimmers, fly swatters, even large dog bones scared her. If I snapped my tshirt while folding it, that would scare her. She would get scared if we even touched the hose nozzle, even when the hose was off. I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me. But it’s ok, she is worth it! SOOOOOO worth it!! In the time we’ve had her, she gotten over most of her fears. It took time and dedication from both of us but it worked. She wants to be your companion, your best friend. We just had to work hard to build her confidence. She went from not even knowing her name to knowing how to sit, stay, and come. She went from fearing the hose nozzle and water to jumping in the pool after my dogs. She’s come a long way and I am SO proud of her. And now she’s ready for her forever home.
