๐Ÿš— PARKING:

Parking is limited at the Highlands Biological Station so carpooling is appreciated. We have very limited parking spots at the Valentine House (888 Horse Cove Road) that are adjacent to the event space, and at the Sunset Rock Trailhead across the road.

For those who are able, some parking is available at our North Campus area (111 Lower Lake Rd) with a ~5-10 minute walk to the Valentine Meadow. Parking is also available at Hudson Library (554 Main St.) with a ~10-15 minute walk to the event along Horse Cove Rd (note that the sidewalk switches to the opposite side of the road once you reach 6th Street, so please use caution as you cross the street).

Please be mindful and use caution near the historic Nature Center as it undergoes renovations.

Free program provided by Highlands Biological Foundation.

Thirty plants, two ways to walk them.

The Bartram Walk at our Botanical Gardens follows plants connected to John and William Bartram. Stop at the flame azalea, which William Bartram described in May 1775: "The flaming azalea abounds and illuminates the hillsides." Look for the Franklin tree, found by John and William Bartram on the Altamaha River in 1765 and now extinct in the wild. And find the Fraser magnolia, which Bartram wrote about in 1775 and named a peak for.

Walk it forward from the Amphitheater to the Bog Garden, or in reverse from the Parking Area Buckeyes to the Ethnobotanical Garden. Our interactive map shows every plant and where to find it.
