In 2017 we separated, thinking our lives would become our own, and we would be free. Free from the burden of each other. We told our girls right before Christmas that year and then Sofia Zoe and I moved to the city and Greg stayed at the farm.
In Spring of 2018 our youngest daughter Zoe had to have surgery for what the doctors thought was a twisted o***y,
but it turned out to be a massive tumor.
Our lives changed.
Greg and I had to put our differences aside to help our daughter battle a Rhabdoid Sarcoma cancer. She was only the nineteen child in the world at that point to endure such a trial.
We moved our lives to Chapel Hill NC where the right doctors and surgeons could help Zoe. Sofia, our other daughter commuted from VA-NC for school.
Where does Gods mercy come into all of this you might ask?
At the beginning, I knew I couldn’t do it alone. Even though Greg and I were working together to provide the best for Zoe, we stubbornly stayed in our own worlds. God was working on us both, showing us the “matter” of our hearts and our brokenness.
Gods Mercy is this;
He saved each of us.
Zoe devoted powerful moments to learning about God, and showing us no words of man were above the miracles which happened in the hospital room.
Greg learned what God needed him to do as a man, a father, a husband and a son.
Our daughter Sofia learned the unfathomable reality that believing the unseen, feeling the unseen, and desiring the unseen is more real than we allow ourselves to believe.
And I, I learned how to surrender it all. Even the things I had fought hardest for. My family.
Many know that statistics show the high rate at which marriage crumble when a family looses a child.
But through our new found faith in safety, freedom and healing of Zoe up high and us down below, we decided to start over - cold turkey!
We started turning our old abandoned farm (at that point) into what it is today.
From refusing to work together, to building our past into a redeemed life of devotion and service to each other — and ultimately to those around us.
An unimaginable pain, turned to unimaginable love.
