🎉 We are so honored to share some exciting news — The White Pig has been named a winner of PETA's inaugural Hospitality with Heart Award, recognizing the top vegan retreats in the United States! 🐷💚

We are proud to be the oldest operating vegan bed and breakfast in the country, and this recognition means the world to us. Every day, we get to welcome guests to our 172 peaceful acres, share a gourmet vegan breakfast made with love, and introduce them to nearly 60 rescued animals who call this place home.

Friends, this year has been one of the hardest we’ve faced at The White Pig Animal Sanctuary. Donations have slowed to almost nothing, nearly every grant was denied, and winter is already pushing our feed, hay, bedding, and utility costs through the roof.

But every animal here is still waking up each day trusting us to care for them, and we’re turning to you to help make that possible.

Meet Atticus 🐷💙

Atticus represents both the best and the worst of humanity. He is a commercial farm pig, genetically engineered to grow unnaturally fast and unusually large — all so pigs like him can be slaughtered at just 6 months old. His only worth in that system? A sandwich.

But Atticus’s story took a different turn. Found running stray, likely after being used as a breeder boar, animal control’s only “solution” was to shoot him due to lack of shelter and transport options. Thankfully, The White Pig Animal Sanctuary stepped in — and because of your support, Atticus was given the chance to live.

Now 11 years old, Atticus has outlived almost every pig of his kind. While many like him suffer early-onset arthritis, he remains healthy and full of life — a living testament to resilience, compassion, and freedom.

Every supporter of The White Pig is part of Atticus’s journey — and part of the lives of the 70 other animals who call our sanctuary home. But we cannot continue this work without you. 💚

The Cville Vegfest is coming up on September 14th. We wish we could be tabling there this year, but we have too many projects to complete before the weather starts to get cold. To everyone who has donated, supported us over the years, or just joined our community — thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness has carried us this far. But right now, we’re facing a serious challenge.

We’re only 25% of the way to securing the funding we need to keep our doors open. That means we’re still far from being able to continue the vital work we do — for the animals, and for the people who find peace and purpose here.

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve opened my home, my farm and my heart to thousands of visitors — through sanctuary tours, vegan outreach, open houses, and quiet moments of connection. I’ve said yes to animals with nowhere else to go, offering them refuge, healing, and unconditional love. We've offered support to those in the community who needed feed, shelter, or just guidance, so they could continue to care for their animals.

I'm here 365 days a year, 7 days a week. No vacations. No days off. Just this mission — because I believe in it with everything I have.

But I can’t do this alone. Not anymore.
