I love taking guests in my off-road RZR to go explore—Palatki Heritage Site & Mission Mountain 👽 this trip.

• Archaic Cultures (3,000–6,000 years ago): The oldest markings at the site include deeply etched petroglyphs and early abstract paintings predating the actual cliff dwellings.

• Sinagua Culture (1150–1350 CE): The primary builders of the nearby cliff ruins left behind extensive designs including geometric patterns, animal figures (like lizards and deer), handprints, and spiritual symbols.

• Yavapai, Apache, and Navajo (1400–1875 CE): Later nomadic historic tribes added their own drawings, depicting distinct figures and cultural symbols over the older layers.

• Early Euro-American Settlers (1880s–1890s): You can even spot historic names and dates carved into the rocks by early 19th-century pioneers.

Cowpen daisy / golden crownbeard (growing wild outside my garden) — Leaf or whole-plant infusion was used as a wash or weak tea for fever, spider-bite itch, and stomach upset. Crushed plant was applied to swelling, bruises, and irritated skin. Blossoms were chewed with water as an emetic. Use only in small amounts; the plant is toxic in large quantities and is not a daily tea.

Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus)

This is a large, ground-dwelling cuckoo native to the deserts and arid regions of the southwestern United States and Mexico. Key features visible here include:
Long, pointed bill
Shaggy crest on the head
Streaked brown, black, and white plumage
Long legs and a long tail (partially visible)
Pale underparts

They’re famous for running (rather than flying) at high speeds and are the real-life inspiration for the cartoon Road Runner. This one appears to be hanging out near outdoor furniture on red desert soil—classic habitat.

NEW FRIEND 👇

Golden Buprestid (or Golden Jewel Beetle)

It's harmless to humans—no sting or bite—and a beautiful example of nature's "living jewelry."
