Long Term Closure of Northbound Oakland Avenue
As water main and service line installation nears completion, crews are preparing to begin the next phase of the project: pavement removal.
Beginning the week of June 15, crews will use concrete saws and large excavators to break up the concrete and asphalt in the closed northbound lanes of Oakland Avenue into smaller pieces. Residents and businesses should expect noise and vibration during this work.
To accommodate pavement removals and future paving operations, a portion of the current northbound lane on Oakland Avenue must be removed. As a result, starting early in the week of June 15, northbound Oakland Avenue between Capitol Drive and Glendale Avenue will be closed until late July. Southbound Oakland Avenue will remain open to traffic.
Northbound motorists are encouraged to use Capitol Drive, Lake Drive, and Hampton Road to get around the closure. The Milwaukee County Transit Northbound Green Line will also use this detour.
