The 2026 season starts this Thursday evening, and every weekend (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) through September 12, hosts free concerts!

Founded in 1856 along the Big Sioux River, Sioux Falls grew around the powerful cascades carved more than 14,000 years ago. Today, the city is known not only as South Dakota’s largest city, but also for the striking pink Sioux quartzite that helped shape its identity and architecture.

One of its most iconic landmarks is the historic Queen Bee Mill in Falls Park. Constructed between 1879 and 1881, the seven-story mill was built to harness the river’s hydropower and quickly became a symbol of the city’s industrial ambition. Though economic hardships challenged the operation for decades, the structure remained a defining part of Sioux Falls until a devastating fire destroyed much of the mill in 1956.

Today, the preserved pink quartzite ruins stand as a lasting reminder of the city’s history, resilience, and connection to the river that started it all.

You can see it when you visit Falls Park, just a short walk from the Hotel.
