Happy Alaska Day!

Did you know Alaska Day has a special connection to right here in Sitka?

▪ On October 18, 1867, Alaska was formally transferred from Russia to the United States during a flag-raising ceremony at Castle Hill in Sitka.

▪ The United States purchased Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million in 1867 — about 2 cents per acre!

▪ Alaska didn't become the 49th state until January 3, 1959, nearly 92 years after the transfer.

At Horizon West Fishing Adventures, we are grateful we get to share a little piece of this incredible place with our guests every season.
