Slaton Harvey House State Historic Site Experience the legacy of The Slaton Harvey House! Join us for an overnight stay in our elegant B&B Most locals still refer to the building as “the depot”.

We invite you to stay with us at The Slaton Harvey House, a “Gem of the South Plains,” and a place where every event becomes a memorable occasion. It serves as a historic Bed & Breakfast serving the Lubbock area, an Event Center, and designated historic landmark by the State of Texas. The Slaton Harvey House first opened in 1912 by the Fred Harvey Company, furthering the company’s mission of offer

ing quality meals at fast pace for train passengers of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The Harvey House venture closed in 1942, but the facility continued as a passenger and freight depot for many years. The building went into disrepair after ATS&F ceased operations from Slaton and was facing demolition when a group of locals and others with close connections mounted a successful effort to save and revive this landmark of Slaton and the Lubbock area. Place setting at Harvey House of SlatonNow in operation for more than ten years, the Slaton Harvey House provides Lubbock area travelers one of only two Bed and Breakfast options for Lubbock. We also offer a unique setting for family or company events, and an unforgettable backdrop for marital vows or receptions.

🚂. 🚂 Did you know? 🚂 🚂

President Andrew Jackson isn’t only known for being a President, nor is he just the guy on the $20 bill; he is also the FIRST President to ride a train. And not just any old train, he rode with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, which you may recognize as the B&O Railroad…like on the Monopoly board!

In the 1830’s, steam locomotives were commonly referred to as “iron horses”, largely in part to the famous display of power and speed when a horse and a locomotive, the Tom Thumb, raced one another...SPOILER ALERT…the horse narrowly won!

Planning a weekend escape? You don’t have to go far to find something truly one-of-a-kind. 🌟

The Slaton Harvey House is a beautifully restored 1912 Mission Revival landmark — one of only six original Fred Harvey eating houses still standing in Texas. Today it’s a historic bed and breakfast, railroad museum, and event center all under one roof, and recently named the Texas Historical Commission’s 40th historic Texas site.

Wake up to a custom-ordered breakfast served in our historic, restored dining room, watch trains roll through on the active BNSF railyard, and explore everything Slaton and the Lubbock area has to offer.

Rooms start at $135/night. We’d love to have you!

Tomorrow, our community of Slaton, Texas celebrates the Class of 2026!

We wish a special CONGRATULATIONS to our favorite local Harvey Girl, Ellie Culver, on her graduation from high school. Much of her childhood was spent at our Harvey House helping with programs, construction projects, and serving as Santa’s #1 elf. Ellie represents the next generation of history doers and we couldn’t be more proud.

We wish Ellie and the Class of 2026 Slaton High School Tigers all the best!
