*Best Frozen Waterfalls In A Decade*

The Hocking Hills are having an epic winter season. I have made many trips to the Ohio state park over the last 12 years and I have never seen ice build up like this...even during our trips between 2013-2015! This is a self-portrait at Ash Cave from yesterday.

If you plan on making a trip down to see the frozen waterfalls for yourself, I would do it sooner rather than later before it warms up much (this week is an ideal time), and do NOT cross those trails without ice crampons. While I think you would survive getting to Ash Cave without them, Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, etc is slick enough to bruise you up at the very least and send you to the hospital at the worst. I saw a record number of confident adults wipe out and fly down sets of concrete stairs like they were trying to practice bobsledding for the Olympics. If you put on a set of ice crampons, you will be fine, just watch out for the others without them on their feet as when (not if) they fall they pose a threat of taking you out too.
