They say that once you become a part of something, it never really leaves you. It becomes a piece of your heart, a piece of your story, and a piece of who you are forever. And if you know SSDC, you know just how true that is. 🤎💛
Southampton isn’t just a place where you went to camp. It’s a place where you grew up. It’s the friendships that lasted far beyond the summer, learned lessons that stayed with you, and created memories that somehow feel just as special years later. No matter where life takes you, no matter how many years pass, and no matter how far away you may be, there will always be a little piece of Southampton with you.
The 6 Degrees of Southampton is real. You can feel it everywhere. One person knows another, who knows another, and suddenly you’re connected by something that doesn’t need an explanation. A shared love. A shared history. A shared home.
This past week has been such a beautiful reminder of that. A reminder that we always come back to each other. A reminder that waiting 10 months for 2 means so much more than just counting down the days. It means you’re going to be surrounded by people who understand a part of you without you ever having to explain it.
We learn so much at Southampton. We learn that sometimes in life it just doesn’t matter. We learn that kindness can change someone’s entire day. That sometimes a simple smile from across the room can make someone feel seen. That a hug can say everything when words aren’t enough.
But most of all, we learn what it means to belong. Because Southampton isn’t just something you were a part of.
It’s a part of you.
And no matter where life takes us, that will never change.
It IS, and it ALWAYS will be, . 🤎💛🦉

There are some people who become so much a part of a place that it becomes almost impossible to separate the two. For more than 50 years, our beloved “Aunt” Jacque was the heart, imagination and gentle spirit of SSDC. To generations of campers and staff, she was “Aunt Jacque”: almost mom, biggest cheerleader, mentor, friend, teacher and so much more. To us, she was our mom, wife, Nana and the center of our universe.Our beloved Nana Jacs passed away peacefully on September 18th, surrounded by the family who loved her so deeply.

It is hard to put into words what camp meant to Jacs and what she meant to SSDC. Camp was her extended family and filled her whole heart with happiness. It fueled her creativity and her passion for helping children grow into the best versions of themselves. Her spirit is woven into every corner of SSDC. It lives in our traditions, our sense of wonder and, most importantly, in the way we care for one another.Jacque loved nothing more than seeing children feel safe, celebrated, included and loved. She had the rare ability to make someone feel incredibly special without making anyone else feel left out. She loved generations of campers as her own and mentored generations of staff who went on to care for the next generation of children.

Her creativity knew no bounds. She found wonder in nature, beauty in little things and endless opportunities to make life more fun. So many SSDC traditions, our beloved Owl family, celebrations and little touches began somewhere in Jacque’s imagination.She was clever and curious. Silly and sentimental. Soft and strong.Generous, resourceful and incredibly hardworking. Above all, she loved her family and her extended SSDC family with her whole heart.
Hand in hand with Uncle Rick, she didn’t simply build a summer camp. Together, they built a community and a way of caring for children that will live on for generations.
To keep Aunt Jacque’s spirit alive, follow a few of her rules: Cherish family. Share. Show love. Be creative. Dream. Go places. Love animals. Respect others. Eat good food. Climb high. And above all, take time to be kind. For Aunt Jacque, go out and seize the day.With love + gratitude, The Blums❤️

Behavioral Milestones brought their team together for their annual Fall Retreat at Southampton Summer Day Camp! 🤎💛
From learning and professional growth to team building, laughter, and creating meaningful memories, it was a day filled with everything that makes learning fun and rewarding! Behavioral Milestones creates personalized therapy goals that are embedded into fun, engaging activities….making progress feel like play while creating life-changing results for children and families🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒
We were so excited to welcome their team to Southampton and be part of a day centered around growth, connection, and a whole lot of fun!

Happy Anniversary to a special part of our SSDC family, Rick & Jacque 🫶

It’s hard to put into words just how much the two of you mean to SSDC. What you have built together goes way beyond a summer at camp. You have created a family, a community, and a place that has given so many people memories, friendships, and a feeling of belonging that they carry with them forever

The impact you have had on SSDC and on the people who have been lucky enough to be a part of it is absolutely incredible. So much of what makes camp feel like home comes from the love, time, and heart that you have poured into it over the years

Wishing you both a very happy anniversary and many more years of love, laughter, and memories together. We love you, and we are so grateful for the family you have created and the lasting mark you have left on us all 🦉💛🤎
