Good morning everyone. It's now the end of April and signs of Spring are appearing in the front gardens. It's also time to consider your visit to the Maine coast and secure your reservations for your preferred time frame. I'm well overdue in updating this post so now that winter is over, it's time.Spring is always elusive in Maine but it's now well on its way. The grass is green, trees are budding and gardeners are busily at work preparing our beautiful landscape for your arrival.
Most seasonal businesses are in the process of opening and looking forward to Memorial Day and the annual parade, a Birding Festival from 5/25-5/28 and there will be fireworks over the harbor on July 4th. Meanwhile, hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking are in full swing. I hope I will be seeing you in Southwest Harbor soon. And do take advantage of our three day special during May and June.

We're now into the second month of this new year and it's time to think about any plans you have for summer and fall. Planning during the cold winter months for your next range of summer time activities is a perfect morale booster too. There are many people though who delight in our cold weather and the opportunities for ice climbing, cross-country skiing, hiking and ice skating abound. Several really frigid weeks last month, followed by rain and more cold, produced some incredible skating trips on clear, smooth ice among the trees in the park.

The 4th of July weekend is almost upon us and I hope many of MDIs friends will be helping us usher in the first big weekend of the summer. Our usual spectacular fireworks will light up the harbor on the night of the 4th - a fitting end to a day of hiking, boating, eating and just enjoying friends and family. Stop in and say hello as you wander by Penury Hall.

After a long break from November through the holidays it's now time to reconnect with friends and guests. As we progress further into 2017 and the winter months it's really time to start planning for the coming spring and summer seasons on Mount Desert Island. A wonderful celebration throughout 2016 of the Park Centennial and Acadia's 100th birthday. Do plan on visiting during 2017 and take advantage of our hiking trails, biking the carriage roads, boat trips and tours, museums and concerts and the simple pleasure of relaxing in a very beautiful part of the state. Penury Hall offers three guest rooms, with full breakfasts, in the lovely coastal village of Southwest Harbor - and the added advantage of being within walking distance of a variety of wonderful dining options. I hope I'll be able to meet you this summer.
