My fabulous clients just returned from their Virgin Voyages Greek Island Cruise and wanted to share!
Hi Amanda,
Here's a breakdown:
Athens - The Electra Palace Hotel was awesome! It was centrally located and there were great views of the Acropolis from our rooms and from the restaurant. The morning breakfasts were also high quality. The concierge was a great help of recommending things for us.
We wanted to try authentic Gyros and they suggested Greco's Project https://www.grecosproject.gr/en/ and it did not disappoint. 1 minute walking and there were a lot of locals there so that was good.
On Saturday we did the Red Bus on/off and traveled the City, which was great. We then got off to do the Acropolis, however the tickets were sold out. However, we were able to go to the Acropolis Museum which was awesome! It actually sits above an archeology site.
Santorini - We did a wine tasting excursion through Virgin as the kids suggested it. The tour itself was great, we toured 2 wineries and our guide was great...wine was okay but we also live 30 minutes from Napa LOL!
Part of the excursion is to have free time in Oeia and Fira which was good. Crowded but we expected that.
They gave us tram tickets to take down to the port...unfortunately, there were 3 other cruise ships there so we had to wait a little over an hour to get on the tram...not too bad, just hot.
Rhodes - We did a 5 hour Kayak excursion through Virgin that included snorkling time. After that we regrouped at the shipped and walked through Ancients Rhodes visiting the Palace of the Grand Master: https://palaceofthegrandmaster.com/ worth it if you like history...both Gunner and Tabitha were really into it!
Bodrum - We "freelanced" there and went to the Bodrum Castle, which was doing some underwater archeology and we were able to see some scientists picture and catalog some items! https://www.bodrum-museum.com/
Had some great seafood at the port.
The only thing about Bodrum is that a lot of the restaurant people were "hawking" to get you to go their restaurant...annoying.
Seaday - Spent all day at the pool, eating, drinking, playing games, napping, repeat!
Mykonos - We went to Super Paradise Beach Thalas for about 5 hours, water was a little colder than Rhodes but we had fun relaxing and having authentic Greek food there.
Mykonos - Saturday and the girls were shopping, of course, but I asked the local guy there where is a good seafood place to eat and he suggested Kavos.
It was still on the waterfront and again it did not disappoint!
We stayed the night in Mykonos and the kids went back into town for the nightlife....Kim and I stayed and watched fireworks from our balcony! Apparently there was a wedding.
There was a lot of moving parts on this trip but EVERYTHING went according to plan (except for the passport machines breaking down in Athens!). Thank goodness we didn't have a connecting flight as some passengers did.
Our rooms on the ship were great, centrally located easy access to the galley and great views going into port. However, we were right below the galley so every morning at around 0700, you can hear tables and chairs being dragged on the floor above, which of course woke us and the kids up.
But as always Amanda, a great and wonderful trip thanks to you!
