Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hi to the 21c St. Louis team this weekend at The Young Friends Council of x lumunious one-night celebration, Patterns in Nature: LightForm! 🧡

We were excited to bring a taste of ’s “The Way Out West” staircase art installation and ’s “Matrix Botanica - Biosphere above Nations” video performance piece.

Melanie Bonajo created this performance as an ode to nature: a concert for trees and animals. The artist plays the protagonist Nature, using her own voice to personify land, air, water, and plants. This performance took place in the Green Cathedral, an artistic planting of trees shaped like the Cathedral Notre-Dame in Reims, France, created in 1987 by Dutch artist Marinus Boezem. Bonajo entices audiences to change their relationship with Mother Nature and embrace a more “eco-centric perspective in a more connected universe.”

Last night, 21c St. Louis was thrilled to host St. Louis artist for a reception celebrating her temporary art installation in our Main Gallery, “Beside Between Beyond”.

The community based, research-driven ongoing project raises awareness about domestic abuse with a highlight on immigrant and refugee populations. Presenting this installation worked perfectly in tandem with our monthly Community Impact partner for their mission to reduce the impact and incidence of domestic and sexual violence.

Using beads, sequins, and embroidery, artist employs and expands decorative art to illuminate the language of self-affirmation. Her beaded wall hanging, “Indestructible”, includes flowers and leaves, as well as a snake, referencing the garden as a symbol of life, death, and the growth in between. This piece is part of our current exhibition, “The Future Is Female”.

“My gardens symbolize the unseen realm of one’s spirit out of which comes the visible universe,” Stephanie Hirsch notes. “There is a metaphorical garden planted inside each and every one of us…Darkness along our journey is inevitable but how we choose to tend to our thoughts will create the environment in which we live.”

As you celebrate all the mother figures in your life this weekend, make sure they don’t feel like they have to be indestructible, even if they are. 🧡

Meet Piglet! 🐶🧡

21c St. Louis was excited to partner with Stray Rescue of St. Louis for their Slumber Pawty Fundraiser. Pets are always welcome at 21c so volunteer Courtney took the very adoptable, very adorable Piglet to spend a night enjoying the sights and getting pampered with us.

“Piglet and I had a BLAST at our Slumber Pawty at the 21c Hotel! We took an evening stroll, ordered room service from Idol Wolf, then cuddled and played for the rest of the evening. We had a lovely breakfast at Good Press the next morning, took one last stroll around the art exhibitions and then Piglet had to stop for some last minute belly rubs before we headed out!”
