In 1964, when LBJ came home to his ranch - the "Texas White House," just a mile up the road - the national press corps came with him. And they landed here.

The US Press Corp had a standing reservation for Room 8. What is now a kitchenette was once a darkroom where they developed their film. Shots of the President working the crowds, Lady Bird charming reporters under the oaks, the family making their ritual trip to Sunday church, newsmen tumbling out of station wagons with cameras swinging - processed right here, then rushed out to the AP wires for the whole country to see.

Today, those very images cover the walls of Room 8 - The Press Room. Sleep where history was literally developed.

Happy 4th of July from the Texas Hill Country 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate 250 years of America. A country built on resilience, hope, and neighbors showing up for one another.

This year, those words feel especially close to home.

Just 30 minutes down the road from us, the Kerrville community is still grieving after the devastating floods that took 139 precious lives. Families lost children. Summer camps lost little girls who should have gone home with stories and memories. Hundreds of families saw their homes, belongings, and sense of normal turned upside down in a matter of hours.

It is impossible to celebrate today without holding space for them.

But in the heartbreak, we have also seen the very best of America.

Thousands of volunteers from across Texas and around the country have arrived with work gloves, supplies, donations, heavy equipment, and open hearts. Strangers became neighbors. Communities came together. People showed up simply because others needed help.

That spirit is what we celebrate today.

The flags, the fireworks, the gatherings with family and friends are reminders not just of our history, but of who we continue to be when times are hardest.

From all of us at the Stonewall Motor Lodge, we wish you a safe and meaningful Independence Day.

At Stonewall Motor Lodge, we’ve always known we were a little different - a retro roadside escape tucked into the heart of Texas W**e Country, surrounded by w**eries, Hill Country views, and our quirky connection to President Lyndon B. Johnson.

But this week, The Spears Family reminded us we’re something else too:

They came searching for dark skies and the Milky Way. Their mission? Stay up until the middle of the night, spread out blankets under the stars, and create a memory their kids would never forget.

With our quiet location, wide-open Texas skies, and 3 acres of grassy back acreage with almost no light pollution, they found exactly what they were looking for.

They spent the night watching constellations rise, spotting shooting stars, and soaking in the kind of peaceful silence you only find deep in the Hill Country.

The next day they told us:
