Lots of recent rain means fun mushroom spotting on campus. This one is either a Parasol or False Parasol Mushroom. Ironically, the Parasol is edible and prized for its nutty flavor, while the False Parasol is toxic to humans. A reminder to always do the homework and choose wisely.

We're riding out the heat wave without missing a beat. And celebrating the unity and love that we want to see in the world at the same time.

Hosting three multigenerational groups this weekend: One celebrating and teaching their Russian heritage; another American Korean group worshipping and playing together; and the other a family of mission co-workers who once lived on campus.

Freedom, safety, and love. It's a beautiful thing. ❤️

In celebration of the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s, we engaged Rev. Dr. Cornell Edmonds, Pastor of Church of the Covenant in NYC to discuss the impact of King's work and what it means today.

This episode marks the launch of Rooted and Rising, a new podcast series from Stony Point Center, designed to connect listeners with the voices, ideas, and lived experiences of changemakers working in the realm of social justice. The series will feature both secular and faith-based conversations, grounded in the realities of our time and oriented toward meaningful action.

Rooted and Rising is also the first offering of ROOTS (Retreat-based Organizing and Outreach Training School). Through ROOTS, we will engage national leaders in trainings that explore community organizing, nonviolent engagement, the roots of racism in America, and more.

Stony Point Center aims to be a trusted place for current, actionable information, training, and support, helping the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), as well as secular and partner faith communities, re-engage in bringing the Gospel to life today.

As a side note, moments in the long struggle for justice have often aligned with new beginnings at Stony Point Center since the pandemic. In 2021, as we prepared to reopen on July 1, heavy rain led Penguin Rep Theatre to move their Juneteenth celebration indoors, opening the Center earlier than planned. In 2024, we launched our first Social Justice Summit on April 4, later realizing the significance of that date as the anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination.

It feels fitting, then, that we mark this new chapter in our programmatic focus on a day set aside to remember and celebrate the life, work, and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
