You’re probably hearing a lot about Airbnb this week.
Here’s my hot take. 👉
In addition to a bunch of new rules, Airbnb’s cut from hosts has gone from 3% to 15.5%. For small hosts like us, that means our prices on Airbnb have to go up to cover it. Our book direct prices don’t.
So guests who book through Airbnb pay hundreds, sometimes thousands, more for the exact same stay. Same cabin. Same dock. Same sunsets. Same hosts.
I ran our numbers: since 2019, our guests have paid Airbnb an estimated $175,000 in fees. With the new fee structure, that number only gets bigger from here. And when Airbnb guests come back to stay with us again? 42 of 45 booked direct.
To our returning guests: you’re the reason this news doesn’t sting. Our returning families, the friends who send their friends, everyone who has booked direct and left one of our 551 five-star reviews. You’ve built this little family business right alongside us, and we don’t take a single stay for granted. Thank you. 🧡
Let’s cut out the billion-dollar middleman and support small, family-owned businesses instead.
