Fire-roasted Kaluna butternut squash + apples (), toasted bread (), and homemade marshmallows toasted to finish. A little sweet, a little smoky, and a delicious excuse to linger around the fire on a cool fall day.

A little look back at our Wilderness Wise adventures at Kaluna this year. 🌿

These gatherings have brought families into the woods to explore, practice wilderness skills, make discoveries and enjoy time together. We’ve loved seeing curiosity grow and friendships take shape along the way.

October 9 is our final Wilderness Wise session of the year! We’ll focus on fire-building skills and techniques for cooking over a fire, followed by a seasonal feast.

A little cooler weather has brought back that urge to linger in the kitchen, so here’s a peek at a recent family steak dinner. Ben made a black garlic butter for the steaks, and judging by the reactions around the table, this one will be hard to top!

If it inspires your own weekend cooking, we’ll have black garlic and other seasonal goodies at the Kaluna Farm Store tomorrow, Saturday, from 10 am–5 pm. Come see us!

Quality has always been a hallmark of what we grow and make at Kaluna.

From the way we care for the soil to the timing of each harvest, we make decisions with the people who will eat this food in mind. Our produce is harvested, washed and packed with intention, because we believe in feeding our community of supporters with the same care and quality we expect for our own family.

That relationship between grower and eater is at the heart of everything we do here.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the solar power system we installed earlier this summer at the Kaluna Hearth!

The system includes 21 solar panels and battery storage to help power our commercial Farm Kitchen. On a good day, it can generate much of the energy we need while storing enough power to keep us operating for two to three days during an outage. We are also able to use it to charge our electric vehicles.

This is a big step toward greater energy independence and resilience at Kaluna, and one more way we are working to bring our daily operations into closer alignment with our commitment to thoughtful land stewardship.

Bird lovers, great news! Saturday Day Passes are now available for our Fall Migration Birding Weekend.

Saturday, September 26 | $190 per person

Spend Saturday with local naturalist and birder, Carey Jo Titus, for a full day of fall migration birding at Kaluna, including:

• Sunrise birding
• Coffee + scones
• Farm-to-table brunch
• Birding-by-ear instruction
• Time to explore the farm
• Farm-to-table dinner
• Fireside gathering

This is a great option for those who live close enough to head home afterward, or anyone who simply can’t commit to the full September 25–27 retreat.
We still have a few spaces available for the complete weekend experience as well, including lodging, meals, Friday evening programming and owl listening, Saturday’s full schedule, and Sunday morning birding.

Another warm day, another basil harvest. 🌿

September is giving us one more good stretch of summer weather, and the basil is making the most of it.

So while cooler days are finally on the horizon, we’re still bringing in armloads of fragrant Italian basil from the field while we can.

Some will make its way to the Farm Store fresh, and plenty more will become batches of our fresh basil pesto.

For now, we’ll happily take a few more rounds of summer abundance before the season begins to shift. 💚
