Julie and Robert Cahalane are the Owners and Full-time Innkeepers of Inn on the Rio. They purchased the Inn in 1996 and to this day continue to nurture the land, buildings and returning guests. Renovating, building and planning for a bright future for the Inn on the Rio is their passion. Reminiscent of years past, loading up the car and visiting unique parts of America, Inn on the Rio offers up a

nostalgic getaway. The comfortable relaxed setting of the Inn; small, single story, park by your room, grass, trees, gardens, friendly guests and Innkeepers, is the mainstay of lodging that keeps visitors returning. Jules and Robert continue to strive to maintain the feel of that bygone era. The Inn continues today to celebrate those memories of Taos’ laid back, eclectic, artistic, southwest style and culture. The Amenities

Nestled under centuries old silver cottonwoods on the banks of the Rio Fernando, The Inn on the Rio, is located only a mile and a half east of the historic Taos Plaza. Located at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Inn offers expansive mountain views. The Inn on the Rio celebrates the tri-cultural personality of Taos. Hand-painted murals by two local folk artists, viga’s, latilla fences, colorful southwestern décor and adobe/pueblo style buildings,
Welcoming adobe lobby with Mexican tiles, local art and the largest Carmen Velarde kiva fireplace in the world. Twelve guestrooms, each individually decorated in southwest style. All have private entrances and private bathrooms, cable television and front porches that look out onto the surrounding area mountains. Spectacular outdoor in ground hot tub in a private garden. Seasonal pool. BBQ area set amongst silver cottonwood trees. Full, hot, hearty gourmet breakfasts served daily. Green features: We recycle: hard to do in Taos but we do, plastics, glass, cans, etc… Next, we capture all of our laundry water and use it to water the many plantings around the Inn. Pool and hot tub water is also used to irrigate the grass and various plantings. New in 2015, we, with the help of our plumber, have created a green way to heat the pool. Using a series of black piping on the roof we have the pool water circulating then returning to the pool. These are just a few of the environmental features we do here and always looking for the next green opportunity. Wi-Fi is available. The Rankings

Featured in many guide books such as: Fodor’s, Frommer’s, The Lonely Planet, Moon Hand Book and Auto Club. On Trip Advisor and Yelp, we have over a four star rating, out of five, with both. This ranks us in their 90-plus percentile. Finally, the most important rating of all comes from our Guests. We have three Guest Books and just started our fourth filled with thousands of very special comments and thoughts. Hundreds of handwritten notes and cards expressing personal reflections on their Taos experience rest in a basket for all to enjoy in the Inn’s gathering room. Giving rise to our tag line, “Where Friends Send Friends.” We did not come up with the line, a Guest did; a true compliment in deed.
