We are officially empty nesters here at The Temple. I wasn't around to capture the moment the last hatchling jumped the nest, but a guest captured what happened next. It jumped down, apparently the parent noticed, and it kinda wondered around a little trying to figure, "What next", then followed the adult off the porch and into the desert. This happened yesterday morning. I hope I still get to see them around some. Everytime I walk in the main room here, I keep looking up at the nest hoping to see them. All that's left is 1 unhatched egg. I kinda feel like this was a kind of cozmic nod of the head that we're doing something special here. That a wild roadrunner fely safe to raise her chicks here, right where everyone could see them, on the edge of the kitchen here. I will remover the egg and continue to water the plant the nest was built on, and maybe it'll get used again? Stay tuned... Thanks to Patrick Farnsworth for capturing these videos.
