Many hands make light work. And some hands make all the difference.
Fall on the farm is a season of preparation. While the flowers may still be blooming, there's a tremendous amount of work happening behind the scenes to get the fields ready for winter and prepare for another growing season.
This past week, we've been busy identifying and tagging hundreds of dahlias so they're ready to be lifted, divided, and stored after the first frost. We've been weeding and adding compost to the peony beds, clearing out spent plants, and tackling what feels like an endless list of fall chores.
It's a lot of work. More than one person can reasonably manage alone.
But here's the beautiful part.
When the call went out for a little help, some pretty incredible women answered. They've shown up after long days of their own, spent evenings and weekends working in the fields, and traded their free time for dirty hands and a whole lot of farm chores.
And I couldn't be more grateful.
There's something really special about friends who don't just offer encouragement from the sidelines, but roll up their sleeves and get right to work beside you.
The flowers may be what makes this farm beautiful, but it's the people who show up and care for it that make it something truly special.
Here's to good friends, dirty hands, and the promise of another beautiful growing season.
