Pikas may be small, but they sure are mighty! They are one of few mammal species in the Lower 48 that can survive their entire lives above tree line in high-alpine, rocky terrain.

Though they look like rodents, they're actually more closely related to rabbits and hares and only eat plants. In late summer, you might see them working diligently to gather mouthfuls of vegetation to sustain them through winter.

Listen for their distinct high-pitched calls - one of the most recognizable indicators of active pika habitat!

Ah, camping. Humanity’s ancient tradition of leaving a perfectly good house to sleep in a nylon bag surrounded by wildlife.

Sometimes spending a day in the wilderness isn’t quite enough to capture the feeling of a special place. Sometimes it’s exactly what you need. But if you’re ready to extend your adventure beyond sunrise to sunset, there’s a park campsite waiting for you.

From sleeping beneath towering trees to waking up beside desert landscapes, camping offers a chance to slow down, unplug, and experience parks in a whole new way.

P.S. The spider is also reconsidering its vacation choices.

Hello, summer? Are you there? 🧐

It may be almost July, but that doesn't stop the occasional snowstorm in Yellowstone. If you visited the park this week, you may have been surprised to experience snowfall. Since most of the park lies at an elevation of 6,000 feet (1,829 m) above sea level or higher, unpredictability characterizes our weather around here! No matter when you visit, bring a warm jacket, rain gear, and lots of layers.

(News Release) If you plan to visit Yellowstone National Park this Fourth of July, plan ahead to protect yourself and this wild and awe-inspiring place. Summer is the busiest time in the park, so please pack your patience. Expect crowds at popular areas and lines at entrance stations, construction areas, and roadside wildlife sightings.

🎆 Leave fireworks at home. Fireworks are not allowed in Yellowstone – even just a spark can ignite a wildfire!

💧 Flood your flames. Campfires are only permitted within established fire rings in campgrounds and some backcountry campsites in Yellowstone. Never leave your campfire unattended and always check to ensure it’s cold to the touch before leaving: Soak, stir, feel, and repeat.

🔥 Check current fire conditions. The current fire danger level in the park is moderate but could change at any time based on conditions. Please plan your activities accordingly. If you see smoke or fire in the park, please report it to rangers or call 911.
