Fishing Report!!!!
Week #4 6/1-6/8
Water temps: 68-70
This week was the best week of fishing we have had the entire season! With a mixture of great action, really nice keepers, and a bunch of slots it was an all around great week!
As I’m sure many people figured out this week, the shallow rock bite is going and in full swing. Our best bite was 4-12’ rocks. Points and rock piles were the main areas of focus for us.
Throwing a trusty bobber with a leech produced the most fish all week long. Making sure your leech was 12” or so off the bottom was key, sometimes even higher based on the fish and spot. We did catch a few fish on plastics but that action was not as frequent as a leech.
Finding areas with wind is always a huge help to finding active walleyes. Let your leech soak and float into the rock to trigger bites from even the laziest of eyes. Hot sunny days seemed to have the walleyes fired up nearly all day long and it’s made for some good fun on the water.
A few keys to getting the most bites this week… let them eat the leech and don’t get too quick with setting the hook, keep moving until you find active fish, and capitalize on the evening hours right before dark.
Don’t overcomplicate things. It’s a bobber and a leech. Find a point or rock pile and throw them up on top during the low light hours, or even mid day when it’s hot, and you’ll probably catch some walleyes! Keep it simple!
As we keep rolling into summer, this weather front I’m sure will change the bite. I already saw a change in the bite this morning, much slower and they were very finicky and just grabbing the back of the leeches.
July and August dates are already starting to book as well. Getting on the books early is never a bad thing! Lock in your dates today for the amazing late summer bite as well as the always fun lead core bite in August.
