🍁 SMOKY MOUNTAIN / BLUE RIDGE MOUNTANS FALL COLOR UPDATE • OCTOBER 19 🍁

The mountains are putting on their fall show—and what we’re seeing in person doesn’t completely match the predicted map! 👀🍂

Our local observations show color is reaching PEAK in mountain areas around 5,000 feet and above. Some spots are less advanced than the map suggests, so don’t count those higher elevations out just yet!

This map highlights Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Cades Cove, Blue Ridge, GA, and Big Canoe, GA, to help you get your bearings. Remember, the shading represents estimated conditions. Elevation, slope, and location can make a big difference in what you’ll see.

🌿🦯 WALKING STICKS ARE ON THE MOVE IN THE SMOKIES!

Talk about a master of disguise! 🍂👀

Check out this incredible walking stick insect spotted on our glass office door in Gatlinburg, Tennessee!

This fascinating little creature appears to be a Northern Walkingstick, a native insect found throughout the Great Smoky Mountains.

🌳 A few fun facts about walking sticks:

🍃 Masters of camouflage! Their long, slender bodies and legs look just like twigs, helping them hide from hungry birds and other predators.

🌿 They're vegetarians! Walking sticks feed on leaves from trees like oak and hazelnut.

🦯 They're completely harmless! Northern Walkingsticks don't sting or have venom, and they're no threat to people.

🍁 Fall is a great time to spot them! As adults move around during mating season, you might discover one on your porch, window, or even your front door.

One of the most amazing things about the Smokies is how much wildlife is hiding right in front of our eyes!
