Proposed Roundabouts on SH 30 (Harvey Road). Have You Seen the Plans?

Bev and I attended Texas Department of Transportation - Bryan’s public meeting Tuesday evening to review the proposed improvements to SH 30 (Harvey Road), from Associates Avenue to FM 158.

The approximately two-mile corridor plan includes widening the road from two lanes to four, adding multiple roundabouts, pedestrian and bicycle improvements, and acquiring additional right-of-way.

TxDOT first presented three design alternatives at a public meeting in December 2025. At Tuesday's meeting, we reviewed the selected alternative, which includes multiple roundabouts along Harvey Road.

If you travel Harvey Road, live nearby, or own property along this corridor, I encourage you to review the proposed plans.

The project is still in the planning stages, and construction is not currently funded.

If you missed the meeting, TxDOT has posted the presentation materials, proposed roadway designs, and a YouTube video explaining the project. I encourage you to watch the video to get a better understanding of what is being proposed.

The deadline to submit comments for the official public record is November 4, 2026.

Review the plans and submit comments:

Trust Beyond Your Understanding

Proverbs 3:5-6 - “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

As autumn advances, the vine moves toward acclimation and dormancy. Leaves age and fall, canes harden, and stored reserves support the life hidden in roots and permanent wood.

The Vinetender cannot force every stage or control every condition. He reads the vineyard carefully, acts faithfully, and respects the order built into the vine.

Devotional

Understanding is a gift, but it was never meant to become our god. We want complete explanations before we move, visible guarantees before we trust, and certainty about every turn in the road. Proverbs offers a wiser posture: trust the Lord with all your heart.

The autumn vineyard teaches this humility. By looking at the vineyard we realize mistakes we made, things we did correctly and should be repeated, and how nothing is a guarantee. The vinetender knows the annual rhythm, watches the weather, and studies the condition of the vines. Still, he cannot command the exact day of leaf fall, eliminate every risk, or see every detail of the coming season. Wisdom does not require omniscience. It requires faithful dependence.

To lean on our own understanding is to treat our limited human view as sufficient. Yet we see only one row, one moment, and one season. God sees the whole vineyard. He knows what has been, what is hidden, and what is still to come.

We weigh it against the Bible’s Truth.

Sometimes God’s straight path passes through a season we would not have chosen. A closed door may redirect us. A delay may protect us. A quiet interval may mature us before the next assignment. We may not understand the route while we are walking it, but we can know the character of the One who leads.

The Vinetender’s wisdom is not limited to what you can explain. Place your full weight on His character, acknowledge Him in the decision before you, and take the next faithful step He makes clear.

Despite being an ancient grain, quinoa is related to spinach, beets, and the ornamental cockscomb.
