OKALOOSA PIER CAM IS BACK: The underwater camera at the Okaloosa Island Pier is streaming again after the Natural Resources Team from Visit Destin-Fort Walton Beach redeployed it Saturday with a dedicated fiber network.

The camera had been offline for several months due to technical difficulties with the camera itself and infrastructure challenges.

Okaloosa County’s Information Technology (IT) department advised building the camera on its own fiber network, aiming to improve overall quality and avoid interruptions. IT technicians installed the conduit and fiber for the relaunch of the camera. The Natural Resources team then installed the camera on the new fiber network.

Divers entered the water around the pier Saturday morning to reinstall the camera. Staff from Visit Destin-Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa County Beach Safety assisted from above, and the camera was live within about an hour.

BROOKS BRIDGE REPLACEMENT WEEKLY ADVISORY

Drivers may encounter intermittent lane closures, Sunday, Jan. 25 through Thursday, Jan. 29 from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for construction activities at the following locations:
🔹 Santa Rosa Boulevard from U.S. 98 to Ross Marler Park. Signage and traffic flaggers will be in place to safely direct drivers through the work zone.
🔹 U.S. 98 from Ferry Road to Pier Road.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
