Is your AMS costing you more than you think?

From rising maintenance costs and clunky member logins to manual workflows and unreliable data, many associations are paying a “hidden tax” just to keep their AMS running.

Re:Members’ “7.5 Reasons to Break Up With Your AMS” infographic breaks down the most common warning signs. It’s also a quick self-check to see if it’s time for a change.

If it sounds familiar, it might be time for a new AMS.

This afternoon's sessions added another layer to the AI conversation: it’s not just about using AI—it’s about how you use it.

Most associations don’t have a tool problem—they have an “ingredients” problem.

If your data and knowledge aren’t ready, AI won’t get you very far. But when they are, the possibilities open up—better member experiences, smarter decisions, even new ways to generate revenue.

A lot of organizations are using AI like a microwave—fast and easy, but limited. The ones pulling ahead are being more intentional about what they’re building.

Another important theme was around people and leadership. Innovation doesn’t just happen because you have the right tools. It happens when you:
- Make space for new ideas and emerging voices
- Support experimentation
- Create an environment where it’s safe to try (and learn)

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about technology—it’s about how associations evolve to stay relevant and continue delivering value.

Curious—what feels like the biggest challenge right now: getting your data ready, figuring out the right use cases, or building the right culture?

Today’s morning sessions at all pointed to one big idea: AI isn’t just about working faster—it’s about working smarter.

For a long time, the focus has been on efficiency, automation, and speed. But now, the real value is in human judgment—how we use AI to make better decisions, not just do more.

One idea I really liked: connecting the structured data we’ve built over time with the unstructured knowledge we don’t always tap into. That’s where AI can really make a difference.

It was also great to see a real example in action. NACUBO shared how they’re rolling out AI within their Higher Logic platform in a practical, step-by-step way—focused on improving both staff workflows and the member experience.

And in a roundtable on agentic AI, there was an honest conversation about what it actually takes to get there. The potential is exciting—but it’s not plug-and-play. It takes the right foundation, some trial and error, and a willingness to learn along the way.

A few takeaways that stuck:
- AI works best when it supports human decision-making
- Strong data and systems really matter
- You don’t have to do everything at once—start where it makes sense

Lots to think about as associations figure out how to move forward with AI in a meaningful way.

How is your organization approaching it?

AI isn’t just something associations are talking about—it’s something they’re actively using and learning from.

In these sessions, we heard how:

- AGU is already seeing real impact from AI tools

- AAPL is delivering faster, smarter insights to 11,000 members

- Association leaders are tackling staff concerns and helping teams see AI as a support system—not a replacement

One big takeaway: adopting AI successfully isn’t just about the tools—it’s about people, process, and building confidence along the way.

Today’s morning sessions at really brought everything together: AI is changing how associations operate—but success depends on more than just adopting new tools.

The opening keynote focused on the opportunity—associations that embrace AI now will help shape their industries. And we already have strong advantages: trust, expertise, and content.

But there were a few important reality checks throughout the morning:
- AI only works if your data does (data literacy really matters)
- AI is already reshaping jobs, roles, and industries
- And not every innovation effort will go as planned

One of the most honest conversations came from a panel on innovation and failure. The takeaway: if you’re not experimenting (and occasionally failing), you’re probably not moving fast enough.

What matters is how quickly you learn, adapt, and try again.

A few ideas to think about:
- AI readiness starts with data readiness
- Human connection still matters, even as more work is automated
- Associations have a responsibility to help their communities navigate change
- Building a culture that supports learning and experimentation is key

It’s not just about keeping up with technology—it’s about staying relevant and leading through change.

How is your organization approaching AI, data, and innovation right now?
