Doula rant here:
This kind of article makes me really angry. After some more decent-ish information, there is this uninformed little nugget: "Once you are on Pitocin, you must be strictly monitored and remain in bed. "
Wrong.
You guys, in my 10+ years as a birth doula, and visiting our local hospitals quite frequently, I have NEVER heard a mom get asked to stay in bed because of a pitocin drip. It's uninformed, and patently untrue. And it's why I get moms who are deeply afraid of spending any time at the hospital. The reality is actually much more common-sense and humane. Getting pitocin isn't fun, and there's lots of good reasons *not* to, but if you need pitocin for some reason, you can eat, drink, move around, get in the tub or shower, or cruise the halls (just with an obnoxious little buddy of an I.V. Pole).
Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Even if it was reviewed by what seems like an actual doctor just two years ago. Ask your doula what *really* happens--she's been in those situations recently, and knows by experience.
I almost don't want to link the rotten article. But I'm not making this up, so here you go--just for the sake of credibility. Just don't bother actually reading it.
