What makes this review especially meaningful is what came next: the guest described a house designed not just to look beautiful, but to work beautifully too.

A kitchen equipped for real meals. Spaces to gather and spaces to retreat. Beach essentials ready to go. Two dedicated work areas, 600 sq game lounge.

Thoughtful details throughout the house that make settling in feel easy.

Some October evenings don’t need much explaining.

A heron in the shallows. The sun dropping over the Sound. And one of those moments that makes you stop on the way home and stay a little longer.

The shoreline gets quieter after summer.

Summer makes it easy to fall for the shoreline.

Fall makes you appreciate the house.

Coffee around the island. A long dinner. A game upstairs. Somewhere comfortable to settle in when the day is done.

The coast is part of the experience.

So is staying in.

The room guests don’t expect.

More than 600 square feet on the third floor, with poker, putting, chess, games, yoga/meditation nook, workspace and room to simply spread out.

One guest called it an “unexpected bonus.”

We think it’s one of the things that makes the house work so well for a group: plenty of places to be together — and another whole floor when you want a little space of your own.

October on the Sound.

The water gets quieter. The light gets lower. Herons linger at low tide, gulls claim the pilings, and sunsets seem to take their time.

It’s one of our favorite times at Walnut Beach.

Three floors. Spaces for meals, games, work, reading and doing absolutely nothing — with plenty of room for up to six guests to find their own corner.
