Some of the people on our team have been here longer than some of our guests have been alive.

That's not a coincidence. It's a reflection of something true about this place - that Sonnenalp is not simply a hotel to work at. It is, for many of our team, a home. A community. A place where the guests who come back year after year become familiar faces, and where the work of hospitality feels less like a job description and more like a way of being.

We are endlessly grateful for the people who make this place what it is. They are, in every sense, the heart of Sonnenalp.

Oktoberfest has come to Vail and it feels right at home here!

Lionshead Village hosts its Oktoberfest celebration (September 11–13), with live music, traditional food, and the particular brand of late-summer energy that Vail does so well.

Vail Village Oktoberfest follows September 18–20. 🍺

For a hotel with German roots, there's something deeply fitting about celebrating this tradition in the valley. At Sonnenalp, Gemütlichkeit isn't a theme, it's a way of operating. It's what we've been practicing since a small German inn first opened its doors more than a hundred years ago.

Every year, September does something remarkable in Vail.

The aspens turn. Not all at once. It happens gradually, hillside by hillside, until the entire Gore Range is gold and amber and the light in the valley has a particular warmth that's impossible to describe and impossible to forget once you've seen it.

This is peak foliage season in one of Colorado's most breathtaking corridors. The hiking trails are quieter than summer. The days are crisp and sunny. The evenings are cool enough for a fire and a glass of something warm.

At Sonnenalp, fall has always been one of our favorite chapters. The hotel is warm and unhurried, the restaurants are at their best and the spa feels exactly right after a morning on the trails.

If you've been thinking about a fall visit, this is your sign.

August has a rhythm all its own here with longer days, full patios, one more hike squeezed in before golden hour...

And there's a lot to look forward to once September arrives: the aspens just starting to turn gold, quieter trails, and one of our favorite stretches of the year in Vail.

There's a word that we return to often: gemütlichkeit. No perfect English translation but close enough to warmth, togetherness, the feeling of belonging that lingers long after check-out.

It's the word Fashion Week Daily reached for too, in a recent feature on Sonnenalp and the launch of The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd.'s newest book, Explore. As one contributor put it, Sonnenalp isn't simply in Vail, it is Vail.

Tomorrow, August 22nd, Sonnenalp turns up the volume in the best way.

Oktoberfest here means a kitchen full of German classics, a live band that keeps the night going, and a crowd that takes the lederhosen more seriously than you'd expect. It's one of our favorite nights of the year, and honestly, one of the most fun.

Family-owned, German-rooted, and never more festive than tomorrow night. Prost!

Couples who get married at Sonnenalp tend to end up with a version of Europe in the middle of Colorado with a garden ceremony, a reception under string lights, a send-off that feels more like a homecoming than an event.

Booking a room at Sonnenalp comes with access to our club during your stay.

The Sonnenalp Club is a private, championship golf course in Vail Valley, and hotel guests get full run of it, plus the fitness center, a second pool, and the new Mashie Bar, which has quickly become our favorite spot for a drink after a round.

It's easy to miss if nobody mentions it. So, we're mentioning it.

Most of what we know about Sonnenalp, we've learned from the people who keep coming back.

They tell us it's the small things: someone at the front desk who remembers a coffee order from a year ago, a server at Ludwig's who always seems to know when to check in and when to leave you alone. It's not a script. It's just a staff that's been here long enough to genuinely know people.
