2024 Preservation Award Winner! Constructed in 1906, the McKey Building is a four-story Renaissance Revival structure that served office tenants for over a century. It was rehabilitated using historic tax credits, creating a coffee shop on the ground floor and event space, office spaces and a boutique hotel on the upper floors. The project preserved character-defining features, including brick cladding, round-arched window openings and marble accents on the exterior, as well as retaining original partitions, plaster finishes, doors and clerestory windows on the interior. This rehabilitation is significant because it transformed a dormant building into a multi-use space in the heart of Valdosta’s downtown. The McKey Building now stands as an iconic, vibrant centerpiece, contributing to tourism, economic growth and downtown revitalization.

The Mckey is a building full of history. All of our rooms are named for some part of that history. Our room Converse & Co. was named after the first business to occupy the space. It was a prestigious clothing company run by Albert Converse. The Converse Family continued to occupy the building in some way until the early 2000’s. Our Converse and Co room is a suite with a King sized bed, kitchenette, and seating area. It includes a comfortable bathroom and chic, modern decor while paying tribute to the family and business that started it all.

The newly renovated Mckey Hotel is steeped in beautiful and interesting Valdosta history. Our 12 rooms are named after different pieces of history of the building and Valdosta itself. Our first room, named 1906, comes from the fact that the building was originally completed in 1906. It was one of many important buildings built in a three year span, including the Courthouse in 1905 and the restoration of First United Methodist Church in 1904. This room pays homage to those buildings, while being modern, chic and comfortable. It is one of our suites that includes a King sized bed, great bathroom, seating area and kitchenette, along with fantastic amenities and within walking distance of many of Valdosta’s best restaurants and businesses.
