Lisbon’s artisanal heritage runs deep. At Andaz Lisbon, Gezo and José of multidisciplinary studio Oficina Marques hosted an intimate evening to celebrate their new exhibition. Hand-built vases draw on the Tagus River, while a striking horse sculpture is crafted from discarded materials. Discover their work on display in the lobby until 28 October.

As we look back on Hawaiian History Month, we’re closing with a reflection from Kaliko.

As a Lahaina wildfire survivor, Kaliko recently joined Lahaina families on Kahoʻolawe, where time with Protect Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana (PKO) and the Kahoʻolawe Island Reserve Commission (KIRC) became part of a larger journey of healing, learning, and caring for the ʻāina.

She reflects especially on the words of Uncle Paul Higashino, whose reminder to “use what get” stayed with her. During their time on island, the group planted more than 1,400 native plants and shared 35,000 ʻaʻaliʻi seeds in support of ongoing restoration efforts.

As Kaliko shared, “We have the opportunity to continue to write history, so we may as well make it a good one.”
