🌾 A Leech Lake tradition! 🛶

Did you know wild rice isn’t actually rice—it’s an aquatic grass! And it’s traditionally harvested by hand from a canoe using wooden sticks.

Manoomin, meaning “the good berry,” has been an important food and part of Anishinaabe culture for generations.
Steamboat Bay has rice beds so many harvesters launch right here from Anderson’s Cove!

Pretty special to see this tradition right here on Leech Lake! ❤️
