A special thanks to West Virginia Forestry and Jesse King, Jordan Stewart, Luke WIllis, Craig Minton, Cody Adkison, Vernon Stephens, and Anne Marie Hoyt for updating the Fire Danger sign and Camp Kootaga. Did you know that West Virginia is the 3rd most forested state in the U.S. and the Division of Forestry’s top priority is Protecting our forests. They protect against poor management practices, but most importantly, they protect against the ravaging effects of wildfire. In 1908, more than 1.7 million acres of forestland were destroyed by fire. As a result of this devastation, the West Virginia Reform Law of 1909 was established to protect the state forests. Today, the WVDOF protects nearly 12 million acres of forestland across West Virginia.
