From the Airlie Archives: Where the world comes to think
In 1961, Washington Post described Airlie as a “Think House” in the rolling countryside outside Warrenton, a place intentionally designed for people to step away from the distractions of busy offices and traditional convention settings.
That year, the Stanley Center for Peace and Security held its Strategy for Peace Conference at Airlie, bringing participants together to consider questions of peace, justice, and international policy. The goal was not simply to meet, but to create the kind of environment where thoughtful conversation could become meaningful change in the world.
This is what made Airlie different from the beginning: people coming together to talk, listen, agree, disagree, and spend time thinking deeply about some of the world’s most pressing issues: economics, international relations, education, and more.
More than six decades later, Airlie continues to be a place where changemakers gather with purpose.
Follow along with Airlie Archives as we continue sharing the stories and moments that shaped Airlie’s history.
