Ellis County has come a long way from its early days as open prairie dotted with pioneer homesteads. In the mid‑1800s, settlers like William Howe and the Sims family began establishing communities along Chambers Creek, laying the foundation for the county’s growth.

As towns like Waxahachie, Red Oak, and Midlothian grew, Ellis County became known for its wide‑open land, ranching heritage, and easy access to major travel routes. By the 20th century, improved roads and the rise of recreational travel made the area a natural fit for RV enthusiasts. The same scenic prairies and Creekside routes that once guided early settlers later welcomed travelers exploring Texas by road.
