Well, I figured out how to correct my "Hours open" and we are no longer "closed". Yikes! Lot and lots of wind today, so much that we had to shut the turbines off to avoid possible damage. At least the snow is gone. No robins yet but did see a red-winged blackbird so spring is definitely on its way. (and not a moment too soon as all of Michigan is really sick of winter.) Posting an old picture of something springlike.

Hello from LogHaven's Innkeeper, Gail.
For some unknown reason FB is showing that LogHaven is CLOSED and we are ALWAYS OPEN!
Trying to find out what's going on. Thanks for visiting us on FB.

October 1st is approaching and the trees are just beginning to change colors. We should enjoy their full regalia by the end of next week. It's been rainy but forecasts say sun for the weekend.

The whip-poor-wills and fireflies are back. Yesterday was the longest day of the year with light in the sky from 5:00 a.m. (with birds yelling) until 10:00 p.m. How wonderful is that! Lots of summer flowers and lots of grass to cut and weeds to pull. Anyone want to stop by and help?

We really do have spring weather, at last. It was a long cold spell, but the orioles, grosbeaks, swallows and other seasonal birds are singing their hearts out and making nests (including the crazy whip-poor-wills). LogHaven had a quiet winter but guests are now making reservations for those wonderful, warm summer vacations. Pastures are ready for guests who bring their own horses and the riding trails are showing spring flowers and new fawns. Don't you wish you were here? Please join us!

Yes, winter has finally arrived! Ogemaw and surrounding counties have about 8 inches of snow. Snowmobile trails are open and offer groomed, marked trails covering four counties. The cross-country ski park, Ogemaw Hills Pathway, is ready for all of you cold-loving outdoors people with over 15 miles of marked trails for skiing, snowshoeing or hiking. Access to the Pathway is about 8 miles
from LogHaven and snowmobile trails are out-of-the-driveway and just down the road. We would love to see you!

Last week's guests were in the area for GEOCACHING. Unknown before to us but apparently a new hobby for families, couples and singles. "Caches" are hidden everywhere with the clue being the geographic map coordinates and the object being to locate the cache and log into the "found" record. Our guests were hunting and finding a cache in every county in the state of Michigan - wow! We understand that there are dozens of caches in our county and many nearby, so LogHaven can provide a great place to stay while on an Ogemaw (or Oscoda, Roscommon, Iosco etc.) county geocaching trip.

The July 4th celebration is over and now we are simply enjoying the beautiful weather. Temps are low at night making for great sleeping and it was 41 degrees last Friday morning (just add a blanket).
The Victorian Art Fair is coming up the weekend of August 9-10th. It's a juried arts/crafts show with 275 exhibitors - a mid-Michigan "not to be missed" event for all who love to spend the day looking at wonderful hand-crafted items. LogHaven is running a special for that weekend - 25% discount with a 2 night minimum stay. Tell your friends and relatives!

May 31st and Spring seems to have arrived. Well, there really was no spring - we jumped directly from winter to summer. Temps in the 80s and loving it! I am finally able to see some flowers and take a few pictures. The birds are already raising young and we have had a "flock" of Orioles this year. Cannot find grape jelly in any of the stores, so others have been having a banner year with them also. These birds don't want their picture taken, but I will continue to stalk them. Our Eastern Bluebirds are singing their little heads off!

June brings a bunch of activities to the West Branch area, including the Nor-East'r Music and Arts Festival, 13-15, in Mio (details at www.noreast.net), the West Branch City Wide Garage Sale on the 14th, the 36th Annual Heritage Fine Art Show on the 19th and more - see www.wbacc.com.

Still trying to take a picture that shows SPRING IS HERE but can't do it. Snow again yesterday and we are in the middle of April. What's going on? Hope springs eternal, right?

03/22/2014

Yesterday was the first day of spring. Desperately trying to update our cover photo, but since we had MORE snow last night, guess I'll have to leave it in place for a little longer. Some spring flowers would be nice, where are they?
